Audio Typologies

What are Audio Typologies?

These audio typologies are inspired by the works of Bernd and Hilla Becher. I first saw their work on exhibit at the Met in NYC in 2022. I was transfixed by these groupings of large format, black and white photographs of industrial architecture. Each photograph on its own was a beautifully executed print but when put in a grouping of 15 similar photographs the effect was mesmerizing. It was immensely satisfying to see a unifying symmetry and desgin at work. Each building was both the same as all the other building and completely unique.

A few years (and several trips to the thrift store) later, I inexplicably find myself with a collection of digital alarm clocks. They were cheap and I guess they invoked some nostalgia for me. I became curious to hear how the alarm tone might be similar or different among diffeent models and then thought about the Bechers typologies… and well, there it was – the idea for audio typologies.
